University of Derby Ramps up its Mental Health Support Offering

The University of Derby, UK, is currently supporting more than 10,000 students in their academic studies. They pride themselves on offering an encouraging and supportive learning environment, delivering a high-quality academic learning experience with many personal touch points from staff. The teaching team brings a wealth of real-world experience, with many still active in their profession.

The team at the University of Derby was looking for a mental health service that could match the quality and international aspect of their academic offering. Their wishlist? A safe place where students could get constant and ongoing support for their well-being.

They found the perfect fit in TalkCampus, offering Derby students 24/7 support from a global community backed by clinical safeguarding.

Having experienced the positive impact of TalkCampus first-hand at London Met University, the Head of Student Services, Sarah Richardson, knew the platform had the potential to provide life-changing support to University of Derby students.

“As I have experienced the product previously, my experience of TalkCampus is the very definition of a successful partnership. The product is on point and the support and service received are professional, extremely supportive, and easy to navigate, not adding to an already heavy workload! TalkCampus will complement our existing support services and provide our first online 24/7 peer-to-peer support service.” Sarah Richardson, Head of Student Services at the University of Derby

As University of Derby’s first online wellbeing resource, we are thrilled to be able to provide their students with instant, ongoing support, 24/7, with real-time moderation and clinical escalation.

With TalkCampus as a peer in their pocket, Derby students can access TalkCampus at any time of day or night from their phone, tablet, or desktop.

With a combination of peer support, machine learning, and innovative design, this global community supports students through anxiety, isolation, and life’s ups and downs. It’s also a great environment to build social connections with like-minded people in a non-judgmental environment.

The TalkCampus platform is joining the University of Derby’s existing student offerings. Their face-to-face services, skill building, career advice, and local community support are now embedded into TalkCampus for easy access. Derby students will now be able to reach the help they need at all hours of the day and get access to an early support option to share and connect.

In Richardson’s words, it was the “rigorous safeguarding and clinical oversight, student-centred product” that appealed most to University of Derby, as well as TalkCampus’ relevant and up-to-date wellbeing content.

“Asking for help isn’t always easy, and peer support can be that important first step many people take in starting to talk about how they are feeling. Through peer support, students are likely to build confidence around talking about their mental health, start to activate help seeking behaviours and in turn, begin to chip away at that lingering stigma. We are delighted to be welcoming Derby students onto the platform, and we know this will be a resource that will aid them in their success.” Kelsey Mulcahy, Head of TalkCampus at TalkCampus
