Wirral Met College is the latest institution to commit to supporting the well-being of students by choosing to partner with innovative mental health solution, TalkCampus. With TalkCampus, students now have free access to instant, ongoing peer support via their smartphones, to allow them to feel connected to other students, their place of study and foster a community of support.
TalkCampus is a proactive and preventative mental health solution that is inclusive to all students, whether on campus or studying remotely. A combination of peer support, machine learning and innovative design mean that students have a community that makes talking about how they’re really feeling that little bit easier.
One of the features that appealed most to the team at Wirral Met College was the multilingual support provided by the platform. TalkCampus is a diverse global community, supporting institutions from 5 continents across 25 languages.
“We are delighted to be partnering with TalkCampus to offer our students free access to this innovative mental health peer support app. The mental health and wellbeing of our students is of upmost importance so it’s great news that students will now have a global student community at their fingertips, giving them access to instant, online support at any time of the day and for as long as needed. The TalkCampus app will complement our professional on-campus support, which includes pastoral mentors, safeguarding and counsellors, to support students’ mental health and wellbeing at all times.” - Ste Bailey, Executive Assistant Principal, Student Support & Foundation Learning at Wirral Met College.
The benefits of peer support are wide-ranging and well evidenced. Peer support can be an effective mechanism to support people with anxiety, depression, addiction and many other mental health issues. Participating in peer-to-peer support has been linked to: an increased ability to cope, a greater sense of wellbeing & resilience, higher levels of self-esteem and confidence.
“It’s fantastic to see the commitment from institutions to student mental health through providing a diverse support program. Having somewhere to connect with others and share openly and honestly about how you’re really feeling can boost resilience and ultimately help students to cope with whatever student life throws at them. We are incredibly excited to be able to add Wirral Met College to our global catalog of forward-thinking and proactive institutions.” - Andrew Welch, Head of Partnerships at TalkCampus
